Generally, April 15 of each year is the due date for filing your IRS federal individual income tax return if you are a calendar year filer whose tax year ends on December 31. If the due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the due date is delayed until the next business day (for example, Sunday, April 16, 2017, is Emancipation Day (http://www.kaldix.com/united-states/calendar/holidays/district-of-columbia-emancipation-day/year-2017/) - but in a twist it's actually being observed on Monday April 17 - so tax year 2016 IRS individual income tax returns are due Tuesday, April 18, 2017.

If your “tax home” or “abode” is outside the United States, your deadline for filing your income tax return should automatically be extended to June 15 if you attach a statement to your tax return describing you qualifying under, and citing, the relevant section of Treasury Reg. § 1.6081-5.
